Position

The vacancy is for the position of principal cello. As a member of our orchestra, you will regularly rehearse and perform in Arnhem and Enschede play throughout Gelderland and Overijssel and beyond. Your location will be Enschede.

Profile

You are an excellent cellist with distinguished qualities as well in orchestral repertoire, and chamber music. You have a professional and flexible work ethic and radiate enthusiasm on every stage. You have excellent communication and leadership skills. You are focused on enhancing and maintaining the orchestra’s mutual collaboration and development in close cooperation with the (chief)conductor and other leaders. Working for Phion is more than playing on stage. We expect our musicians to take part in meetings and be proactive in different ways fitting your own ambitions. We also expect our musicians to invest in their professional development, both on and off stage.

Repertoire

1st round
Haydn D – 1st part without the cadenza
Bach –  one Sarabande from de 6 suites, without repeats

Orchestra parts:
Beethoven – 5th Symphony, 2nd part
Wagner – Walküre solo

2nd round
Dvorák or Schumann – 1st part
Strauss -  Don Quixote

Orchestra parts, amongst others:

Mendelssohn – Midsummer night’s dream;
Mahler – nr. 5; Strauss – Ein Heldenleben, Bartok – Divertimento; Rossini – Wilhem Tell ouverture.

Candidates who are invited to the audition will receive the exact list and scores in due time.

Candidates who are directly permitted to play in the second round, have to prepare the repertoire of the first round as well. 

Terms of Employment

  • An employment contract for an indefinite period of time with a probationary period of 1 year
  • Terms of contract, playing obligations, and remuneration according to Collective Labour Agreement.
  • The position is in Enschede

Selection procedure

  • If necessary, a pre-selection will be made based on the written applications
  • Candidates from a non-EU country must be in possession of a valid work and residence permit for the Netherlands and are requested to include this permit with their application
  • Selection will take place on the basis of an audition. If a candidate is nominated by the audition committee, there will be a selection interview. This involves looking at personality and communication skills required for this position;
